Universitas Islam Riau Hosts International Seminar and AI Training Workshop with Prof. Buntara S. Gan from Nihon University

Pekanbaru — Universitas Islam Riau (UIR) reaffirmed its commitment to advancing science and technology by hosting an International Seminar in collaboration with Prof. Buntara S. Gan from Nihon University, Japan. The seminar, themed “From Vibration to Comfort: QSEERB as the Digital Brain of Disaster-Resilient Buildings,” was held on Wednesday, January 28, 2025, from 09:00 to 12:00 WIB at the 4th Floor Auditorium of H. Rawi Kunin Building, Universitas Islam Riau.

The international seminar was attended by university leaders, lecturers, students, researchers, and practitioners, particularly from the fields of civil engineering, architecture, and disaster mitigation. In his presentation, Prof. Buntara S. Gan introduced the concept of QSEERB (Quick Seismic Evaluation and Response of Buildings), a smart digital system designed to function as the “digital brain” of buildings in responding to seismic events. The system enables real-time vibration monitoring, structural response analysis, and rapid decision-making to enhance building safety and occupant comfort.

Prof. Buntara S. Gan emphasized the importance of integrating sensors, artificial intelligence, and digital analysis systems in developing resilient infrastructure. Through data-driven and technology-based approaches, QSEERB is expected to provide innovative solutions for earthquake risk mitigation, particularly in disaster-prone countries such as Indonesia.

As part of the seminar series, Universitas Islam Riau also conducted an AI Training Workshop from 13:30 to 17:00 WIB, held in the 2nd Floor Meeting Room of H. Rawi Kunin Building, Universitas Islam Riau. The workshop was designed to offer hands-on training on the application of artificial intelligence in structural analysis, earthquake simulation, and digital data processing to support disaster-resilient building systems.

Through this international seminar and workshop, Universitas Islam Riau aims to enhance the academic and professional capacity of its academic community, broaden global perspectives, and strengthen international collaboration with Nihon University. This initiative reflects UIR’s ongoing commitment to promoting innovation, research, and the application of advanced technology in support of sustainable development and public safety.
