Pekanbaru, 9 October 2026 — Universitas Islam Riau (UIR) has reaffirmed its commitment to international academic collaboration by welcoming two distinguished professors from Germany for its Visiting Professor programme. The visiting academics were Prof. Stefan Koos from Universität der Bundeswehr München and Prof. Michael Bohne from Fachhochschule Dortmund. The programme took place from 7 to 9 October 2026 as part of UIR’s ongoing cooperation with Germany through the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD).

Over three days, the professors delivered academic sessions across several UIR faculties and academic units, including the Faculty of Communication Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Faculty of Law, and Graduate School. The programme provided opportunities for knowledge exchange, interdisciplinary learning, and the development of international academic networks.

The Head of UIR’s International Cooperation and Affairs Office (BKUI), Dini Tiara Sasmi, S.IP., M.Si., M.A., explained that the programme featured a range of international topics designed to broaden students’ perspectives and strengthen their understanding of contemporary global issues.

At the Faculty of Communication Sciences, Prof. Stefan Koos presented AI and Communication. At the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Michael Bohne discussed Intellectual Property and Data Law. Meanwhile, at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Prof. Stefan Koos delivered sessions on Copyright Law and Personality Rights and Cross-border Digital Law Enforcement.

At the Faculty of Law, Prof. Michael Bohne explored Data Protection in European Practice and Polygamy and Talaq in German Courts. Both professors also addressed Digital Globalization and Law at the Graduate School.

The collaboration reflects a sustained partnership, with Universität der Bundeswehr München and Fachhochschule Dortmund consistently sending professors to UIR for visiting academic programmes since 2022.

Through this initiative, UIR aims to provide students with international academic exposure, new perspectives, and opportunities to expand their professional networks. The programme also supports the university’s broader efforts to strengthen international engagement, encourage research collaboration, and promote sustainable partnerships with higher education institutions abroad.
