PEKANBARU – Universitas Islam Riau (UIR) continues to gain strong support for its initiative to establish a Faculty of Medicine. Most recently, the Pelalawan Regency Government reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the university’s efforts, recognizing the strategic importance of the program in addressing the increasing demand for qualified healthcare professionals across Riau Province.

The commitment was conveyed during a meeting between UIR leadership and representatives of the Pelalawan Regency Government. The discussion highlighted the importance of collaboration between higher education institutions and local governments in advancing education, healthcare services, and regional development.

Rector of Universitas Islam Riau, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Admiral, S.H., M.H., emphasized that the establishment of a Faculty of Medicine is one of the university’s strategic priorities. According to him, the faculty will play a significant role in producing competent medical professionals while contributing to the improvement of healthcare services in the region.

“The Faculty of Medicine is part of UIR’s long-term commitment to supporting national and regional development through quality higher education. We aim to produce graduates who possess strong academic competence, professional ethics, and a dedication to serving the community,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the Pelalawan Regency Government expressed its appreciation for UIR’s initiative and acknowledged the potential benefits that the faculty would bring. In addition to expanding access to medical education for young people in Riau, the program is expected to help address the shortage of healthcare professionals, particularly in underserved areas.

The collaboration reflects a shared vision between UIR and the local government to enhance human resource development and strengthen the healthcare sector.
