UIR Strengthens Educational Contribution and Research Collaboration with Pasaman Regency

Pekanbaru, Indonesia — Universitas Islam Riau (UIR) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting regional development by enhancing its contribution to education and research through a strategic institutional partnership with the Government of Pasaman Regency, West Sumatra. The collaboration was formalized through an agreement focused on educational programs, applied research, and sustainable utilization of local potential to address socio-economic challenges faced by the Pasaman community.

The partnership aims to leverage UIR’s academic expertise to develop research based on the regency’s natural and human resources. Through applied scientific approaches, UIR intends to support capacity building at the regional level while generating outcomes that are beneficial and relevant to the community’s needs. By aligning university resources with local priorities, the initiative reflects UIR’s effort to bridge academic knowledge with practical, real-world applications.

During the signing event at the Meeting Hall of the Pasaman Regent’s Office, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Admiral, S.H., M.H., Rector of UIR, highlighted that the university’s presence in Pasaman represents a concrete implementation of the Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi — encompassing education, research, and community service — with a strong emphasis on community benefit and societal impact. He emphasized that UIR’s involvement in Pasaman is intended to make a meaningful contribution to improving educational quality and advancing research that can be directly applied to local development challenges.

The event also featured a constructive discussion between UIR officials and the Pasaman Regent, H. Welly Suhery, S.T., who expressed his appreciation for the collaborative initiative and its potential benefits for the region. As an alumnus of UIR’s Petroleum Engineering program (class of 1987), Regent Welly conveyed his pride in the university’s progress and its commitment to delivering tangible outcomes that support regional growth. He underscored the importance of academic partnerships in supporting government efforts to enhance human resource capacities and community well-being.

UIR’s delegation included several senior university leaders, such as Vice Rectors, graduate program administrators, faculty leaders, and representatives from the International Cooperation Bureau. Through this partnership, UIR aspires to continue playing an active role in driving research-based regional development while strengthening academic contributions to education and natural resource management in Pasaman.
